Shaykh Umar bin Husayn Al-Khatib Al-Ansari was born in 1969, in Hadramawt Valley in South Yemen. He memorised the Quran at a young age and pursued studying Islamic Sciences with a number of scholars including his own father in Hadramawt and elsewhere memorising primary texts in Shafi’i jurisprudence and hadith. He is from a long lineage of scholars going back generations, many of them were great jurists and lecturers.
Shaykh Umar is an expert in Shafi’i jurisprudence and currently serves as a senior teacher and head of the fatwa department of the Darul Mustafa Institute of Islamic Sciences, he is also a long-standing khatib for Friday and eid sermons at al-Rawdah mosque in Yemen. He spends day and night, working tirelessly, teaching books such as al-Yaqut al-Nafis, al-Mukhtasar al-Latif, Umdah al-Salik, Minhaj al-Talibin, Tufah al-Muhtaj, and specialist texts in marriage and divorce like al-‘Uddah wa al-Silah fi Ahkam al-Nikah along with their relevant commentaries. Shaykh Umar has a big interest in comparative fiqh and always maintains an open, non-biased approach especially with modern-day issues.
